Queensland drivers are being hit with skyrocketing insurance premiums and experts warn loyal customers may not be getting the deals they deserve.

The cost for some families rising by around 40% but there are ways you could save yourself hundreds of dollars. Even though it's the same car and same conditions, insurance premiums are not the same price. It's around 30% increase over a year so it's left inflation for dead. Car insurance is costing people a lot of money.

In Queensland, that's an extra $470 for comprehensive cover. Another blow to household budgets when every penny needs to be pinched. Families have been hit by the biggest increase, around 40%. Which is around $700. For young drivers in Queensland, it's grim. On average, men and women under the age of 25 are paying more than $2,500 for comprehensive coverage.

But there could be some light at the end of the tunnel. Canstar researchers found that switching to a better value insurer could save you more than $750. A lot of the differences in car insurance policies are the bells and whistles. And you don't necessarily need replacement keys and car hire and all those sorts of things.
